I have the white plastic spacer removed in carb so needle can lift to correct height and brass plug removed from right side of carb near intake boot and adjusted low speed screw out about 2 full turns...this should eliminate most backfiring. I also replaced main jet(145 to a 160) because I have a Emgo (K&N style) filter clamped to carb. I removed rubber boot between carb and airbox...fits in there because filter is only 3.5 inches long. I only had to cut front center of chrome plastic top of battery cover in a half circle for bottom of filter for clearance....used a razor blade for a few passes and then snapped it off for a clean cut. Stock airbox is left alone! The filter is a tapered universal 54mm Emgo with a chrome cap....gauze that needs to be oiled jst like a K&N.
